The 31st Athens International Film Festival (AIFF / Νύχτες Πρεμιέρας) is set to illuminate Athens from October 1 to October 12, 2025, bringing together premieres, tributes, masterclasses, and screenings across multiple venues.
What to Expect
For over three decades, AIFF has been one of Greece’s most vibrant cinematic celebrations. While the 2025 edition is scaled down compared to past years due to funding shifts, organizers promise a focused, high-quality lineup of international and Greek films, special events, and guest appearances.
Highlights this year include a tribute to Neil Jordan, with screenings of The End of the Affair in his honor. An all-day masterclass on editing will be hosted by Greek film editor Yorgos Mavropsaridis at the French Institute in Athens. A selection of international premieres is also expected, including Secret Agent from Brazil, No Other Choice from South Korea, Luca Guadagnino’s After the Hunt, the documentary The Voice of Hind Rajab, and Put Your Soul in Hand and Walk, focusing on Gaza.
Tickets, Passes & Venues
The opening night will take place on Wednesday, October 1, 2025, at the Athens Concert Hall (Megaron Mousikis). Screenings will run across many of Athens’ beloved cinemas including Danaos 1, Cinobo Opera 1, Astor, Asty, Olympia (Municipal Music Theatre “Maria Callas”), Trianon, and Onassis Stegi.
Tickets are typically priced at €8, with special screenings such as Secret Agent at €10. A 10-screening pass is available for €80 and includes an invitation to the Opening Ceremony. Pre-sale of passes begins Monday, September 22, 2025, while single ticket sales open Friday, September 26.
Why It Matters for Expats & Film Lovers
The festival is one of the rare opportunities in Greece to see global art cinema, indie gems, and festival award-winners on the big screen. Beyond screenings, attendees can expect filmmaker Q&As, panel discussions, and masterclasses—perfect for immersing yourself in both the Greek and international film community.
Pro tip: Gala nights and popular premieres sell out quickly, so grab your tickets as soon as sales open. If you’re planning to attend several screenings, the 10-pass option is a smart choice, both for savings and guaranteed access to the opening ceremony.
